Mitochondrial DNA variation of Drosophila obscura (Diptera: Drosophilidae) across Europe

چکیده

Drosophila obscura is a common fruit fly that inhabits the temperate forests of Europe. While it abundant in north compared to other Drosophila, its density decreases southwards, where gradually replaced by species. This study describes variation mitochondrial Cyt b gene D. from several European populations. We observed large number haplotypes, together with structuring genetic variation. Genetic higher west O1 and related divergent haplotypes dominate. In east, O2 haplotype most frequent, recently arose it. central part species range, both are equally present, along many others. These data reveal signs population expansions probably happened earlier west, more east. Though our conclusions based on only one marker, limiting power analysis, results imply either postglacial expansion two unique sources or, likely, eastwards stepping-stone expansion. adds important information phylogeography obscure biology obscura, has potential become an interesting model evolutionary conservation genetics.

Toxicological Evaluation of a New Lepidopteran Insecticide, Flubendiamide, in Non-Target Drosophila melanogaster Meigen (Diptera: Drosophilidae)

Background: Flubendiamide, comparatively a new pesticide designed to eradicate lepidopteran insect pests is known to have low risk to birds, mammals, fish, algae, honey bees, non-target arthropods, earthworms, soil macro- and micro-organisms, non-target plants as well as sewage treatment organisms; however, the risk assessment for aquatic invertebrates from metabolite could not be finalized wit...

Malathion Resistance in Drosophila melanogaster (Diptera: Drosophilidae)

Malathion resistance developed in a Drosophila melanogaster population that has been exposed to malathion for almost 20 years. Genetic analyses showed that malathion resistance in this population is under control of several genes that are located on the first, second and third chromosome. The second chromosome contributes the most to resistance; the factor(s) involved may be (partly) dominant o...

Phenotypic variation of the Aedeagus of Drosophila serido vilela & sene (Diptera: Drosophilidae).

Drosophila serido Vilela & Sene is a polytypic and cactophilic species with broad geographic distribution in Brazil. The morphology of the aedeagi of eight natural populations of D. serido was analyzed. Based on features of their aedeagi, populations of D. serido were discriminated with an efficiency of nearly 75%. The analysis using the Mantel test suggests that the morphological divergence of...

Molecular phylogeny of the Drosophila virilis section (Diptera: Drosophilidae) based on mitochondrial and nuclear sequences.

Regardless of the well-documented virilis species group, most groups of the Drosophila virilis section have not been completely studied at molecular level since it was suggested. Therefore, phylogenetic relationships among and within species groups of the virilis section are generally unknown. In present paper, the complete mitochondrial ND2 gene and fragment of COI gene in combination with a n...

The Genetic Basis of Natural Variation in Drosophila (Diptera: Drosophilidae) Virgin Egg Retention

Drosophila melanogaster is able to thrive in harsh northern climates through adaptations in life-history traits and physiological mechanisms that allow for survival through the winter. We examined the genetic basis of natural variation in one such trait, female virgin egg retention, which was previously shown to vary clinally and seasonally. To further our understanding of the genetic basis and...
